Make New Heart-shaped Crayons by recycling Old Crayons

Old crayons can actually be repurposed to make some pretty amazing crafts. These can even be turned into adorable heart valentines when using a heart-shaped valentine gift. You can also create new colors by blending different shades. So, DON’T THROW YOUR OLD BROKEN CRAYONS, MAKE SOME NEW CRAYONS! Enjoy this fun and quick activity with your Kids.

So, let see how to make it. My daughter helped me to make it.
Kids can make crayons in endless shapes and color combinations, too!  Here’s how! Check out the steps below to see how fast you can turn your old crayons into the new Heart shape crayons.

Supplies You Will Need:

  • Old broken Crayons or new crayons
  • Muffin Pan. ( any shape you want to try out, or the best are Dollar tree muffin pans as they are considerably cheap.
  • Oven and oven mitten.
  • You can find molds in a bunch of different shapes and sizes.

1. Collect all Crayons: Gather all your old crayons. You may find them from the bottom of your art supply, leftover supplies from school.

2. Peel off the Cover: Remove the Paper cover from each of them. This process is time-taking. Kids love to help with this!

Then break or chop them into smaller pieces.

3. Arrange the broken pieces in your muffin pan: We made this project for Valentine’s Day class gift that’s why we used a Heart-shaped pan. Any muffin pan or oven-safe candy mold will work as well. Now, add crayons pieces into each cup. Try to fill them to the top since when the crayon pieces melt, the volume will be less.

TIP: You can also group the crayons into colors that are fun together, red and blue for purple, pink tones or blue tones.

4. MELTING YOUR CRAYONS: Preheat oven at 300 degrees. Place the pan full of crayons into a preheated oven 300 degrees. This whole activity needs to be done by an adult.

5. Bake them for about 8-10 minutes. The Crayon pieces should be melted in 8-10 minutes. Watch them carefully, they will melt fast. 

When they look melted enough, carefully and slowly remove the pan from the oven. Only adults should remove the melted crayons from the oven!

Then let them cool completely. Once cooled, the crayons can be popped out of the pan, tap the back to help this process.

Pop Your heart-shaped crayons and enjoy. Get the paper out and you’re ready to color.
